RNE Network.

The Indian Naval Ship Gharial arrived in Colombo on 4 February to deliver 10 Bailey Bridges to support Sri Lanka’s post-cyclone reconstruction efforts following Cyclone Ditwah.

The modular bridges are expected to play a critical role in restoring damaged road connectivity, facilitating civilian mobility, and enabling smooth relief and rehabilitation operations in the affected areas.

This humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) mission is part of India’s USD 450 million Special Economic Package, announced by External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar, and builds on the ongoing regional cooperation framework under Operation Sagar Bandhu.

The deployment highlights the Indian Navy’s role as a first responder and a trusted partner in the Indian Ocean Region, reinforcing India’s continued support to its maritime neighbours during times of need.
