Cashless treatment up to ₹1.5 lakh for road accident victims, new scheme of central government

The Government of India has launched a schemeon 15th of February 2026 to ensure immediate medical treatment for road accident victims at the nearest health facility, with expenses up to ₹1.5 lakh to be borne by the government.

Vishesh Mahajan, Transport Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir, appealed to the public to come forward and assist accident victims by shifting them to hospitals without delay. He said the treatment expenses will be covered under the PM Rahat Scheme.

In a social media post, Mahajan urged citizens to pledge to become “Rah Veers” and help those injured in road accidents. “By extending timely help, we may save many precious lives,” he said.

Under the scheme, every eligible road accident victim on any category of road will be entitled to cashless treatment up to ₹1.5 lakh per victim for a period of seven days from the date of the accident.

Officials said stabilization treatment will be provided for up to 24 hours in non-life-threatening cases and up to 48 hours in life-threatening cases, subject to police authentication on an integrated digital system.
