Ceasefire talks on Thailand-Cambodia border dispute today

Defence officials from Thailand and Cambodia are set to hold ceasefire talks on Wednesday, following an emergency meeting of Southeast Asian foreign ministers in Kuala Lumpur.
Cambodia’s defence spokesperson has claimed that Thai military forces continued to use artillery and tank-mounted machine guns to fire at multiple targets inside Cambodian territory as of Tuesday.
Thailand, meanwhile, has rejected Cambodia’s request to hold bilateral talks in a neutral country, casting uncertainty over efforts to negotiate an end to the deadly border clashes. However, Thailand’s defence ministry said the meeting would go ahead as planned in its Chanthaburi province.
The Special ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on the Current Situation Between Cambodia and Thailand was convened to halt the fighting that has continued between the two neighbours since December 7.
The conflict has so far killed at least 22 people in Thailand and 21 in Cambodia, and displaced around 750,000 people on both sides of the border.
