Eminent flutist Deepak Sarma passes away at 57 Internationally acclaimed flutist Deepak Sarma passed away at a hospital in Chennai at around 6:15 am today. He was 57. The distinguished artist had been battling a liver ailment and was undergoing treatment in Guwahati before being shifted to Chennai on October 22 for advanced treatment. His demise has cast a pall of sorrow over Assam’s cultural fraternity. Born in 1968 in Panigaon, Nalbari district, Sarma had mesmerised audiences across the world with his magical flute performances.
