Japanese Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Iwao Horii visits Assam, shows interest in semiconductor investment

Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Iwao Horii has arrived in Assam on an official visit. Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said the visit, soon after the formation of the new Japanese government, reflects Assam’s growing importance in the broader India-Japan strategic partnership. 

Mr Horii expressed interest from Japanese companies in developing a strong semiconductor ecosystem around the Tata Group’s semiconductor project at Jagiroad. He also spoke about creating new opportunities to train Assam’s youth in advanced technologies and Japanese language skills.
