Cold wave wreaks havoc across the country, dense fog in many states, alert in UP and Delhi

Winter weather continues to affect large parts of the country as dense fog and cold wave conditions disrupt normal life, while fresh snowfall in the hills has brought cheer, drawing tourists who are soaking in the season’s wintry charm.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, dense to very dense fog has prompted Red and Orange warnings across several districts of Uttar Pradesh. Visibility dropped below 50 metres in places like Lucknow, Varanasi and Prayagraj, while many other districts remain under dense fog conditions, impacting movement and safety.

Dense fog shrouded parts of the national capital early on Thursday morning, with low visibility reported around India Gate and nearby areas as cold conditions persisted.

Minimal fog was reported in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad during the early hours, with mild winter conditions prevailing across the city.

Fresh snowfall in the higher reaches of Anantnag has brought tourists back to Pahalgam. Visitors enjoyed scenic views and pony rides, while locals welcomed renewed tourism activity.

On Thursday morning, Srinagar woke up to sub-zero temperatures yet again. At minus 2.2 degrees Celsius, locals clung to kangris—personal charcoal-fired heaters—while tourists wrapped themselves in heavy jackets to cope with the cold.

Snow-covered Gulmarg attracted tourists seeking a white winter experience, with visitors enjoying skiing and the festive scenery.
