On Saturday, August 1, Rahul Gandhi booked for hurting the sentiments of Sanatan Dharma followers

An FIR has been registered in Varanasi against three MPs- Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Independent MP Pappu Yadav alias Rajesh Ranjan, and Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Awadhesh Prasad.

The case was registered at Kotwali Police Station by the Varanasi Police on Saturday following a complaint by members of the saint community in connection with a protest held outside Parliament over the alleged theft of Ram Temple offerings. The saints are agitated over what they described as a grotesque act by Congress and other opposition leaders.

Kashi Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Gaurav Banswal stated that a formal complaint was submitted at Kotwali Police Station. The complaint relates to videos circulating on social media in which Pappu Yadav is seen wearing saffron robes, impersonating a saint, and performing acts that the complainants claim are offensive to Sanatan Dharma.

Banswal said that a case was being registered based on the complaint and that further legal action would follow.

But why?

The incident occurred on Friday during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament, when INDIA bloc members staged a skit near Makar Dwar to mock the ruling BJP over allegations of irregularities and embezzlement in the collection of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

The Opposition also demanded accountability from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, insisting that he appear before Parliament and respond to the recent police action against protesting students.

Earlier, while speaking on the Anti-Paper Leak Bill, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said, “We will drag the Home Minister from the place where he is hiding and bring him before the public.” The remark triggered an uproar in the Rajya Sabha.

During the protest, opposition MPs raised slogans such as “Chanda chor, gaddi chhod,” “Jawab tumko dena hoga,” and “Amit Shah, Sadan mein aao!” across the Parliament complex.

Purnia MP Pappu Yadav joined the demonstration dressed in saffron robes, portraying a temple priest collecting chanda (offerings) from devotees while carrying a photograph of Lord Ram from the Ayodhya Ram Temple.

Rahul Gandhi was seen offering donations to Pappu Yadav, portraying a Ram Temple priest, while the offerings were allegedly slipped into Pappu Yadav’s pocket as part of the skit, apparently suggesting the misappropriation of temple donations.
