ICC strongly protests Pakistan’s decision to withdraw from the match against India

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Sunday issued a statement strongly objecting to the Pakistan government’s announcement of forfeiting its T20 World Cup match against India.

The ICC took note of the statement in which the government of Pakistan instructed its national team to selectively participate in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The world body said such selective participation is difficult to reconcile with the fundamental premise of a global sporting event, where all teams are expected to compete on equal terms according to the event schedule.

The ICC added that the decision is not in the interest of the global game and cautioned that the Pakistan Cricket Board should consider the significant and long-term implications for cricket in the country, as the move is likely to impact the global cricket ecosystem.

Pakistan has been placed alongside India in Group A. The Pakistan government announced on Sunday that its national team will not take the field against India. There has been no official statement from the Pakistan Cricket Board so far.
