India expands global trade with 9 FTAs in 6 years

India and New Zealand signed the India–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement at Bharat Mandapam in India’s capital, New Delhi, on Monday. The agreement was inked by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and New Zealand’s Trade and Investment Minister Todd McClay. This is the 9th free trade agreement in the past few years with 38 developed countries, with New Zealand’s commitment to invest 20 billion US dollars in the next 15 years.
Over the past six years, India has signed nine FTAs. The India–New Zealand FTA (April 2026) is the fastest negotiated FTA, concluded in just 9 months. The India–US Interim Trade Framework (Feb 2026) is a step toward a comprehensive trade deal between India–US. The India–EU FTA (Jan 2026) is India’s largest-ever trade agreement with 27 EU member states. The India–Oman CEPA (Dec 2025) has the highest-ever tariff coverage with a GCC nation. The India–UK CETA (July 2025) provides 99% of Indian exports with duty-free access. The India–EFTA TEPA (Mar 2024–Oct 2025) is a landmark deal with a $100 billion FDI commitment. The India–Australia ECTA (Dec 2022) is India’s first agreement offering 100% tariff elimination. The India–UAE CEPA (May 2022) saw bilateral trade cross the $100 billion mark in FY25. The India–Mauritius CECPA (2021) is India’s first trade agreement with an African nation.
