The India Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rain activity across several parts of the country.
In North India, heavy rainfall is likely over Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Uttar Pradesh. Residents in these areas are advised to remain alert as rain activity may affect normal life.
In East and Northeast India, heavy rain is expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal. Chhattisgarh and Odisha may also witness extremely heavy rainfall, with thundersqualls reaching 50 to 60 kilometres per hour in isolated areas.
In Western and Central India, heavy rainfall is likely over East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Konkan and Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also expected over parts of Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada, and Vidarbha.
Rain activity has eased across Gujarat after days of heavy showers, but scattered rainfall continues in several parts of the state. Valsad recorded the highest rainfall in Gujarat, receiving 55.2 millimetres of rain in the last 24 hours. The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall across multiple regions on July 31 and August 1.
In South India, heavy rainfall is forecast over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, and Mahe. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Rayalaseema, North Interior Karnataka, and Telangana. Strong surface winds are also expected over parts of Karnataka and Telangana.
