Heavy rain alert for several states across the country; red alert for Eastern UP.

Heavy rainfall is expected to lash several parts of the country on Wednesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert for eastern regions of Uttar Pradesh. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also likely in parts of several states.
The weather office issued an orange alert for Uttarakhand and parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, predicting heavy downpour for today.
Parts of Delhi, Punjab and Haryana are also expected to receive rainfall on Wednesday, with the Met department sounding a yellow alert for these regions. The IMD has forecast heavy rain in Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Bihar as well.
Heavy showers will continue to batter Jharkhand, while no rain warning has been issued for Odisha for today, according to the weather office.
Several states across the country have been grappling with incessant rainfall and flood-like situations for the past few weeks. The continuous downpours have thrown normal life out of gear, leaving several areas waterlogged and causing traffic congestion.
