The Indian women’s cricket team will square off against South Africa in the first T20 International of the five-match series in Durban today.

Promising batter Anushka Sharma has earned her maiden call-up. Meanwhile, wicketkeeper Uma Chetry has returned to the squad, while 22-year-old fast bowler Kashvee Gautam could be in line for her T20 International debut.

Meanwhile, injuries to South Africa’s Dane van Niekerk and Marizanne Kapp mean that the Proteas will be without two of their experienced performers.

The hosts’ pace attack will be spearheaded by Ayabonga Khaka, while Nonkululeko Mlaba will lead the spin department.

The series marks India’s final assignment before their England tour and the Women’s T20 World Cup in June this year.
