India announces squad for Afghanistan series, KL Rahul named vice-captain for Tests, Rohit and Hardik return for ODIs

The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Tuesday announced the squads for the one-off Test and the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, both set to be played in India in June.

KL Rahul replaced Rishabh Pant as the vice-captain of the Indian Test team, which is being led by Shubman Gill. Seniors Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested for the Test match, while Manav Suthar, Gurnoor Brar, and Harsh Dubey are the new faces included in the Test squad.

Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya were picked in the ODI squad subject to fitness clearance.

Among the notable inclusions for the ODI series was fast bowler Prince Yadav, who has had a brilliant season playing for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2026. Ishan Kishan returns to India’s ODI setup on the back of stellar form in domestic cricket and carrying the momentum of his T20 World Cup selection. Rishabh Pant does not find a place in the current setup.
