Namitbir Singh Walia Secures Chess IM Title at Annemasse Masters Tournament

Punjab’s Namitbir Singh Walia from Jalandhar has become an International Master (IM) in Chess by securing the fourth overall position at the 3rd Annemasse International Masters Tournament in France, recently.

Namitbir’s coach, Kanwarjit Singh, while speaking to Akashvani Correspondent, said that he began playing chess at the age of six. He started taking coaching from the age of seven in 2012 and played under the 7 category as well. Kanwarjit coached him till 2020, and then he went on to advanced coaching.

His proud parents, Arvinder Pal Singh and Satvinder Kaur Walia, are happy and are eagerly waiting for their son’s return back home.

A student of Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi, Namitbir Singh’s chess record includes the Senior State FIDE Rating Open Chess Championship, this year. He remains active at key international chess events.
