Switzerland has reached a new trade agreement with the United States that lowers U.S. tariffs on Swiss goods to 15% from 39%. The deal includes a pledge by Swiss companies to invest $200 billion into the U.S. by 2028. Economy Minister Guy Parmelin said Switzerland made no concessions affecting its sovereignty on sanctions, export controls or investment policies. He noted that the previous tariff level had caused “considerable damage,” impacting around 40% of Swiss exports.
The agreement will also reduce Swiss import duties on selected U.S. industrial, fish, seafood and non-sensitive agricultural products. Under the new framework, Switzerland will grant the U.S. duty-free quotas on beef, bison and poultry.
