U.S. President Donald Trump has signed into law the fiscal 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a nearly $1 trillion annual defense policy bill. The legislation includes provisions for new aid to Ukraine and limits the President’s ability to reduce U.S. involvement in Europe’s defense. The NDAA authorizes a record $901 billion in military spending, $8 billion more than Trump had requested.
The NDAA, an annual must-pass law, sets the defense priorities of U.S. lawmakers. This year’s version also seeks to codify over a dozen of President Trump’s executive orders.
The White House confirmed the signing, which took place quietly without an Oval Office ceremony or media presence. The bill allocates $800 million in aid for Ukraine over two years, funding U.S.-made weapons as Russia’s invasion continues. It also enhances security for NATO’s eastern flank, with $175 million designated for Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia.
