The government of New South Wales, Australia, is preparing tighter national gun and hate speech reforms following a mass shooting that killed fifteen people at a Jewish Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach.

The attack shocked the nation and prompted calls for tougher gun laws and stronger action against antisemitism.

Under the proposed rules, individuals will be limited to owning four guns, with exemptions allowing up to 10 for certain people, such as farmers.

The legislation will also ban the display of “terrorist symbols,” including the Islamic State flag, which was found in a car linked to one of the alleged shooters.

Authorities will also have the power to prohibit protests for up to three months following a terrorism incident.

Premier Chris Minns said the laws send a clear message and mark progress toward keeping the people of New South Wales safe.

The Australian government confirmed it is also preparing and drafting stricter national gun and hate speech reforms.
