 India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Yojna Patel, delivered a statement at the Intergovernmental Negotiations on UN Security Council reforms, focused on categories of membership.

Ambassador Yojna Patel said the Council has failed to meet its core responsibilities on peace and security. She emphasised that reforms must include the expansion of permanent membership, stating that without it the process would be incomplete. Patel rejected proposals introducing a third category, saying they risk pushing real reform decades into the future. She also insisted that any restructuring must correct, not worsen, existing imbalances.
